In Costa Rica, the experience will begin with a pilgrimage to the Our Lady of the Angels Basilica: the center of Costa Rican spirituality and the meeting point of thousands of devoted believers who make the traditional pilgrimage on August 1st every year. During the walk, the Ignatian youth will reflect on the experience in order to deepen their understanding of what it means to become a pilgrim, just like St. Ignatius of Loyola, who set off towards Jerusalem alone and on foot (as he describes in his Autobiography) in search of God's will for his life.

After asking for the intercession of the Virgin Mary, pilgrims will participate in the Stations of the Cross in which they will contemplate the God made manifest in daily life, but who becomes more painfully present in the cross to those who are socially excluded. Afterwards, the pilgrims will delve into the meditation on the Eternal King, proposed by St. Ignatius of Loyola in the second week of the Spiritual Exercises. They will discover how this Eternal King (Jesus) invites them to collaborate with Him in the work of redemption.

Once the pilgrims have centered their attention on an encounter with Christ present in our human realities, they will now look for him in the suffering of our sister Mother Earth, as St. Francis of Assisi liked to call her. For this, the pilgrims will break into groups to clean streets and rivers and harvest coffee and other crops.

Following in the steps of Ignatius of Loyola- who in his process of conversion served the Eternal King through the poor- the pilgrims will organize a lunch for people of limited means. A group will take to the streets and adjacent neighborhoods of the Our Lady of Lourdes parish to invite families of limited means to join for the lunch. Another group will help with the food preparation and setting up the hall. At the end, pilgrims will hear the personal testimonies of a few people and then participate in artistic activities.

The youth will discover this day that in following Jesus they are not alone. Rather, they can count on friends who share an ideal that gives purpose to their journey and that from now on is the foundation of their experience of faith. In the typical Costa Rican style, the pilgrims will participate in a party en which they will enjoy folklore presentations and traditional food. Pura vida!
