What to pack in your backpack for MAGIS 2019?

Although January 2019 sounds like "next year", if you look at the calendar you will realize that there are only a few weeks until the start of MAGIS Central America. Hope you are getting excited!

And surely you are wondering whether it is better to bring a suitcase or a backpack, what clothes are the most appropriate, what items are essential and what objects you should not forget. You have been wondering about this, right?

That is why we are shareing with you the following information that will help you pack for your pilgrimage in Central American lands. Please take note!

Backpack or suitcase?

To make your mobilization throughout the experience lighter, we recommend bringing a large backpack with waterproof protection. Please ensure that all items fit inside it and do not exceed a weight of 25 KG as suggested by airlines.

What is the ideal attire?

Undoubtedly, comfortable clothes are ideal because you are going to walk a lot. Avoid packing clothes that are too tight or that can cause itching. Also, please consider including appropriate clothing to visit sacred places such as churches and shrines. Here is a list of clothing items we recommend you bring:

  1. Comfortable clothes for the days of the MAGIS Experiences (pants, t-shirts and shorts)
  2. Underwear
  3. Pajamas
  4. Athletic shoes
  5. Footwear for showering (such as, plastic flip-flops)
  6. Socks

 What personal care items are important?

  1. Toothbrush
  2. Liquid soap
  3. Shampoo and conditioner
  4. Comb
  5. Toothpaste
  6. Towel
  7. Deodorant
  8. Sanitary towels or pads (girls)

 What items are vital to the MAGIS Experiences?

  1. Umbrella or rain coat
  2. Blanket
  3. Pillow
  4. Sleeping bag
  5. Mat
  6. Sunscreen
  7. Sunglasses
  8. Cap or hat
  9. Mosquito repellent
  10. Hand sanitizer or disinfectant
  11. Bible
  12. Notebook
  13. Pen

 Could cultural items be included?

Of course! They can be stickers, flags, bracelets or sweets unique to your country, as long as they are small items that do not generate much weight. If you are bringing a typical costume to participate in the Festival of Nations, keep it in a separate bag and identify it with your name and country.

Lastly…

Do not forget your personal documents: passport (with photocopy), visas (in case you require it), identification document (with photocopy), cards of the following vaccines: (1) yellow fever (for the African continent and Brazil; (2) diphtheria (Venezuela) and (3) measles (United States, Italy, Spain, Greece, China and Venezuela). Also bring any medicines you need with their respective medical prescriptions and - of course! - your cell phone and charger, to record every moment of MAGIS Central America 2019. See you soon!
